Commonwealth Games 2014The XX Commonwealth Games are now over and Glasgow has handed the ‘baton’ over to the Gold Coast in Australia, who will be hosting the XXI Games in 2018. The formal handover of the Games Legacy baton was through a Scottish-Australian bilateral meeting in Glasgow, between Cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison and Queensland Government Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey.

During the meeting, a book containing inspirational messages from young people around the Commonwealth was presented. These messages, collected during the Queen’s Baton Relay, form part of ‘33Fifty’, a national Legacy 2014 youth leadership programme delivered by the Royal Commonwealth Society and Common Purpose. It is hoped that a similar document will once again accompany the Queen’s Baton, travelling through each of the Nations and Territories, before arriving on the Gold Coast in 2018.

33Fifty participant Collin Millar tweeted: “Privilege to tell our @33Fifty story and pass on the baton books to @ShonaRobison and @JannStuckeyMP this afternoon.”
