We are delighted to announce that Lord Coe, one of Britain's most celebrated middle-distance runners, Executive Chairman of CSM Sport and Entertainment and Chairman of the British Olympic Association, and Baroness Grey-Thompson, one of Britain's greatest paralympic athletes and crossbench peer, will speak at the Commonwealth Day Observance on Monday 10th March.
The Observance is the biggest multi-faith celebration in the United Kingdom and takes the form of an hour long service at Westminster Abbey. It features a mixture of testimonies, readings, hymns and musical performances and is attended by Her Majesty The Queen, senior politicians, High Commissioners, Commonwealth dignitaries and up to 200 other VIPs. It is also attended by over 1,000 schoolchildren, with 2,000 people present in total.
The even will focus on this year's Commonwealth theme, 'Team Commonwealth', and it will be an opportunity for guests and the wider Commonwealth community to explore the theme prior to this summer's Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow from 23rd July - 3rd August.
Speakers and performers at the Commonwealth Day Observance 2013 included founder of Avaaz, Ricken Patel, founder and Chairman of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson, Queen of British soul Beverley Knight MBE, and pop favourites The Noisettes.
We will shortly be announcing other speakers and performers, in the meantime for more information on Commonwealth Week, click here.
