'Youth' / © Commonwealth Photographic Awards 2004

The Vision Awards are not the only film prize open to Commonwealth filmmakers! For a completely different competition established to celebrate the wonderful diversity of the Commonwealth, there is the Commonwealth Video Contest. Entrants in the RCS Commonwealth Vision Awards can enter both this and the Video Contest. Whatever you have to say, share it with us: www.yourcommonwealth.org.
Taking Part
The 2010 Commonwealth Vision Awards have now closed.
If you would like any more information, please e-mail us
.
Films for 2010's Vision Awards must be connected to the Commonwealth theme for the year - Science, Technology and Society. Please see the Essay Competition, "Taking Part" pages for guidance or ideas on this theme.
There are two different age groups, please calculate your age as of 1st July 2010.:
Class A (18-30)
Class B (under 18)
In the new Vision Awards from 2010, there are two ways in which entrants may submit their films:
1) The Royal Commonwealth Society has a sum of money from which to award seed grants of up to £1,000 each for entrants to turn their proposals into actual films.
If you would like to submit an application for an RCS seed grant, send your storyboard and application form in. See "Enter Here" for details. The closing date for your storyboard is 6th April
2) Alternatively, applicants who will not have benefitted from the seed grant are invited to submit a short film, under 3 minutes long, on YouTube or by post by the 1st July.
An international judging panel of up to 10 film-makers, experts and partners will judge the films (both those with seed grants and those on YouTube) and the prize winners of both categories will receive their prizes at the Gala Awards Dinner at the Commonwealth Club in October.
Prizes for the Vision Awards will include a 1st Prize in the 18-30 year old category of £2,000. The RCS will also endeavour to fly a selection of winners to London for a series of workshops, meetings and a Gala Awards Ceremony in October.
Online applications through the RCS website (an online form will come in March) are encouraged, but we will also accept entries by post. Please do not email them.
