Guidance for Candidates
What do we want when we say a script?
The Royal Commonwealth Society has a sum of money from which to award seed grants of up to £1,000 each. Please note, Seed Grants for 2010 have been awarded.
The script sets out the basic idea of your 3 minute film. Your script should include these 3 things:
1.The Concept
This is a short paragraph, which describes what your film will show, how it will visually engage an audience, and how it expresses the theme of the competition (Science, Technology and Society for 2010).
There are three main types of concept
1. Fiction
2. Documentary
3. Hypothetical Situation
2.The Synopsis
This is an outline of how the narrative of the film will develop visually, with some dialogue if necessary. A written version of the film as it will appear on the screen. This can be written in the form of a short script or a series of short paragraphs, each one describing the key scenes or moments in the film.
3.The Production Notes
This is a short statement on the use of location/sound/music/images etc. plus any special items for example. permission to use a particular building. This section should explain the visual style of the project, the use of music (if any); the use of graphics (if any); the use of locations, and any special contributions from key people, or special permission/s which will be needed to ensure the film/video can be made.
The theme for 2010 is Science, Technology and Society. Please see the Essay Competition, "Taking Part" pages for guidance or ideas on this theme.
