The Nkabom Commonwealth Youth Leadership Programme is one of the RCS's flagship youth projects. Nkabom (pronounced ink-a-bom) means 'coming together' in parts of Ghana, where the first project was held in 2004.
Through a busy, interactive 10 day programme, Nkabom unites dynamic 18- to 25-year-olds from across the globe in a different Commonwealth location every two years. Alumni join a global, self-sustaining and proactive network of emerging leaders.
Nkabom is unique. It:
- actively engages young people in international issues, particularly conflict resolution
- fosters friendships and encourages the exchange of ideas among people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- develops a network of young leaders who can pioneer and revitalise peacebuilding initiatives in their communities, their countries and beyond
- is directed by young people themselves.
"Nkabom was more than just learning... it changed the way I look at life."
Nkabom delegate, Trinidad and Tobago
