ABOUT COMMONWEALTH YOUTH SUMMITS

Run by the RCS and funded by DFID, the Commonwealth Youth Summits project is a unique debate programme. It will bring to life key international issues such as climate change and poverty for young people across the United Kingdom.

In cities up and down the country, 120 14-16 year olds will come together from diverse schools and youth groups for a two-day Summit. They will take part in varied activities to explore today's big international issues and the idea of global interdependence. They will also develop political literacy and public-speaking skills.

On the second day, participants will play the roles of Prime Ministers, Presidents, Foreign Ministers and journalists during a mock Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Participants will then elect representatives to attend a National Commonwealth Youth Summit in London, to meet with other young people from across the country and to take their ideas forward to leaders from the UK Government and the Commonwealth.

Exciting new resources are being developed to help participants prepare for the project.

The RCS is delighted to be working in partnership with Oxfam, the Commonwealth Secretariat and our fantastic local partners.
