WHY TAKE PART?

You're probably aware of global issues, like climate change, international development and human rights. How do these affect you and the people around you? How do they affect your town, your country, your world?

Commonwealth Youth Summits will unite you with other young people, so you can work together on issues of international importance.

The Summit will take place over two days. The first will involve interactive workshops, in which you'll get to grips with global issues, the Commonwealth and how you can make a difference.

On the second day, you'll have the chance to simulate a real Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. You will play the role of a Head of State or Foreign Minister, working with your teammates to defend the interests of your assigned country. There'll be two debates which you'll do "in role", and a third, open debate, where you get to choose the topic and put forward your own, personal ideas.

If you're interested in journalism, you can form part of the media team. You'll get training from professional journalists and report on the event by producing and recording a news report which will go up on our website, or a Summit newspaper.

At the end of the Summit, all 120 of you will agree a 'Communiqué' – a kind of declaration – setting out what conclusions you came to and what you want governments to do about it.

Each year, we'll be holding four regional Summits and a National Summit in London. The communiqués which are produced will be given to local leaders, the Commonwealth Secretary-General and the UK government. So your voice will really be heard.
