Thoughts on the themes

Nkabom is about peacebuilding. It's about the importance of listening to young people. It's about the fantastic possibilities that can arise from working together.

Here's what a few of the 2008 Nkabomers thought about these big issues:

Martin, Kenya

"As a youth, I believe the future of the world I live in is in my hands."

Richard, Northern Ireland

"Old men in grey suits may be the ones that sign peace agreements or treaties, but ultimately it is young people who sustain actual peace."

Mine, Cyprus

"Young people are dynamic, enthusiastic, less constrained in creativity, idealistic and have a passionate spirit."

Asiya, Trinidad and Tobago

"My generation really minimises the importance of race, sexual orientation or religion and instead focuses on problem-solving."

Valeria, Ghana

"As the next generation of leaders, young people are the key to safeguarding the peace of tomorrow's world."

Swati, India

"Young people are more tolerant of diverse ideas, receptive to change and hopeful about the future."

Alex, Uganda

"There's always a fire burning in every young person to do something, they see the world with eyes of change."

Ival, England

"Young people are the future. It is important that they are fully engaged in any peace process."

Danial, Malaysia

"I strongly believe in the ability and advocacy of young people to bring about change."

Leigh, Jersey

"Young people are readily able to adapt to new ideas and often have less reverence for convention and tradition."

Maria, Cyprus

"I believe more than anything that we are the ones that have the ability and vision to become agents for peace."

Bevan, New Zealand

"In the age of digital communication, young people are going to have a lot more opportunities to have their say about the state of their world."
