History of the project

Between 2003 and 2008, the RCS ran 'Youth CHOGMs'. These model Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings were predecessors to the Commonwealth Youth Summits. We are now building on their success.

Youth CHOGMs were held in Leicester, Cambridge, Bristol, Coventry, Newcastle and Blackburn. Similar events were also organised across the Commonwealth by RCS branches. For example, Youth CHOGMs took place in Western Australia, Canada, Nigeria, Malta, Cyprus, New Zealand and South Africa.

The First UK National event was held at Marlborough House, home of the Commonwealth Secretariat, in London in March 2004. This meeting was opened and hosted by the then Secretary General, Rt Hon Don McKinnon, with the President of the United Nations Security Council, HE Mr Julian Hunte, also in attendance.
