Commonwealth Jubilee Time Capsule

In 2012, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, and with it sixty years as head of the Commonwealth. The RCS is marking the occasion with the Jubilee Time Capsule, an online social archive to tell the story of the last sixty years of the Commonwealth.

As well as providing a unique opportunity to mark HM The Queen's Jubilee, the Jubilee Time Capsule provides a great opportunity to mark the modern Commonwealth, and achieve recommendations set by the Commonwealth Conversation 2010; to 'innovate and be bold,' to reach out to a new generations and carry out 'initiatives to capture the world's imagination.'

We want the project to become a large and varied archive about people, places and events, demonstrating the diversity and vitality of the modern Commonwealth. We will be asking people from all 54 Commonwealth countries to contribute their stories to the capsule, whether as a photograph, a written piece, a film or audio recording.

The best entries will be presented as a gift to Her Majesty as part of the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The online capsule with remain as a social archive, with great value to historians, academics and teachers as an accessible and unique snapshot of an important period of history.
