We are always encouraged by the support and enthusiasm shown by our branches and we particularly look forward to working with you on two of our flagship youth projects for 2010. Nkabom - our Commonwealth Youth Leadership Programme - will take place in Rwanda and, for the first time in its 100 year history, our Essay Competition will run alongside Filmmaking and Photography contests. As Commonwealth Day also approaches, do let us know how you're planning to celebrate the occasion and find out more about what we're doing here.

Commonwealth Conversation Events

Many branches have been busy organising events for the Commonwealth Conversation. Events have taken place in New Zealand, India, Nigeria, Uganda, Australia, the UK, Cameroon and Canada...to name but a few.

You can see reports, photos and videos on the Events page of the Conversation website. We are extremely grateful for the enthusiasm shown by branches for the Conversation. Your support and participation has been invaluable.

We are also delighted to hear that the Conversation is shaping the future projects of several branches. The Commonwealth Youth Organisation of Nigeria is planning its own Nigeria Conversation, a national public consultation to discuss the future of the country after 50 years of independence. Meanwhile, RCS Cameroon plan to run a series of public debates to raise the profile of the Commonwealth.

The Conversation will conclue with a set of recommendations and a full report in early March. Watch this space…

Moderated by BBC presenter Zeinab Badawi, the panel comprised David Miliband, UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs; Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General; Stephen Chan, Professor of International Relations at the School of Oriental and Asian Studies; and Dipu Moni, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister.

This one hour programme was broadcast 7 times over the weekend of 28-29 November and carried on BBC World Service Radio to a combined estimated audience of 100 million people.
