Dear Reader,
Update is an e-newsletter usually exclusive to members of the RCS. However, we have created this version especially for you, either because you used to receive The View - which Update will now replace - or you have recently attended an RCS event. Through Update we'll keep you up-to-date with all our latest news and events. To keep receiving news from the RCS and details of our future events we need a few extra details on top of your email address for our database, so please reply with your first name and surname. Better still, become a member. We have a great offer on membership for you below.

Join the Commonwealth Conversation
On 20 July, UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband and our own Danny Sriskandarajah launched an exciting new RCS project: the Commonwealth Conversation. The results of this global public consultation about the future of the Commonwealth will be taken to Commonwealth leaders at the Heads of Government meeting in November. If you haven't already, join the debate at www.thecommonwealthconversation.org.
How much do you know about the Commonwealth, and what do you think about it? Why not volunteer to take part in one of the informal 'Commonwealth Chats' that the RCS is hosting? All you need is to spare 90 minutes of your time in September/October and come prepared to speak your mind.
If you're interested in getting involved, please contact zoe.ware@thercs.org or 020 7766 9240.

Exciting new youth programme from the RCS
Great news – DFID has granted the RCS three years of funding to launch an exciting new education programme! The Commonwealth Youth Summits will bring to life key international issues such as climate change, poverty and human rights for 1450 14-16 year olds around the UK.
Diverse participants from will come together for two day Summits in 12 cities. They will explore the idea of global interdependence and develop their political literacy and public-speaking skills as they play the roles of Prime Ministers, Presidents, Foreign Ministers and journalists during a mock Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Many of the participants will then have the chance to take their views forward to real global leaders at annual National Summit in London. Watch this space for more!
