Past Exhibitions
To tie in with our other Scottish celebrations, we started the year with an exhibition of Scottish Art by seven artists from the Resipole Studios, Argyll in the Highlands of Scotland. The exhibition saw the collaboration of the Royal Commonwealth Society with ScotsCare.
This exhibition showcased the work of one of Uganda's up-and-coming young artists, Ismael Katerrega. President Yoweri Museveni opened the exhibition. The RCS were pleased to work with the British Council on this display. To see an article about this in the RCS magazine, click here:
Through an Artist's eye
In May 2009, we exhibited the art of homeless people involved in Crisis Skylight: a learning centre for homeless and vulnerably housed people which offers practical and creative workshops in art, music, and drama. To read an article about this exhibition in the RCS magazine, click here:
Art in Crisis
June saw the RCS working with the Mozambique High Commission to share some of Mozambique's wonders with the world. This display saw unknown artists exhibiting alongside some of Mozambique's most famous artisrts to show their cultural and artistic role within Southern Africa, as well as the country's lifestyle, business and wildlife.
Once admired as a land of balance, Sri Lanka has been wracked by years of violence, civil unrest and political upheaval. Dharmadeepa
A high-profile event, with Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor, Rt Hon Jack Straw, BBC World Presenter, Mishal Husain and journalist Martin Bright, opened this fascinating exhibition which examines the integration of Muslims into western societies. Working with Mosaic, we were able to bring school groups to the exhibition to discuss the issues raised by the art.
