Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is the UK Government's department for foreign affairs. The FCO has a wide range of functions including:
- Supporting British nationals overseas through UK embassies abroad and providing comprehensive travel advice and support for Britons who go abroad
- Helping keep Britain safe by supporting policies to make a better world for everyone.
The FCO's main policy goals are:
- counter-terrorism, weapons proliferation and their causes
- preventing and resolving conflict
- promoting a low carbon, high growth, global economy
- developing effective international institutions, above all the UN and EU.
- Funding programmes to support the FCO's policy goals through the Strategic Programme Fund, scholarships and fellowships, conflict prevention pools, and public diplomacy
- Building strong relationships worldwide through interaction with foreign Embassies and High Commissions in the UK, building relationships with stakeholder groups, and working with international organisations.
The Commonwealth Co-ordination Team in the FCO co-ordinate the UK's policy and relations with the Commonwealth. The RCS works closely with the FCO's Commonwealth Co-ordination Team on projects such as Commonwealth Day and the Commonwealth Vision Awards.
