Dear ,
I am writing to you about some important developments in the Club. From today (1 June), all Club operations will be managed by Searcys.
During these difficult economic times, the Club has struggled as a small and independent operation. In light of these challenges, the RCS Council has decided that contracting out the running of the Club offers several advantages, including increased marketing potential for our venue hire business and reduced costs through bulk-buying. After a competitive tender process, we have settled on Searcys [www.searcys.co.uk], a company that has been providing high-quality catering and venue management since 1847. We will join an illustrious group of venues that Searcys currently manages, including the Barbican, Hurlingham Club and National Portrait Gallery. I believe this change will allow us to keep much that is good about the Club (for example, all current staff in the Club will be transferred to Searcys) while delivering real improvements to members and the clients who book our venue. I know that Searcys are committed to delivering better value for money, providing the highest quality of service and responding to members' needs. We have already developed some ideas (for example, opening up more areas in the building for members' use) but they are keen to hear directly from you. The first opportunity to do this will be a chance to meet the Searcys Senior Directors in the Members' Lounge on Tuesday 8th June between 11.00am and 3.00pm. I also wanted to let you know that, after seven years of excellent service, Shaun Whitehouse, the Club Manager, left us last week. The new Manager will be Joël Claustre. Joël has a long and impressive career in hospitality, including having been Chef Sommelier and Manager at several Michelin-starred restaurants. His most recent role was managing Searcys' operations at the Royal Opera House. I recognise that there will be some changes and disruption over the next few weeks but I am confident that this will be both an opportunity to stabilise the finances of the Society and do exciting things with our Club.
As always, please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Member IT facilities
As part of our summer revamp, we are looking to upgrade the IT facilities we offer our members. Our first step will be to install faster broadband. So, if you are using your own laptop and accessing the internet with our complimentary wi-fi, it will be noticeably quicker. We are also looking at how our members use the computer terminals situated in the mezzanine business area. If you have any suggestions as to improvements that would make our IT services more useful to you, then please reply to this email with your thoughts. Alternatively, you can call Membership Manager, Kerrie Fuller, on 020 7766 9203.

Photography deadline extended
Due to popular demand, the deadline for entries into our Photography Competition has been extended to 1st July. This means it will now close on the same day as our Vision Awards film competition. Only one month to go!
The theme for both competitions in 2010 is: Science, Technology and Society.
Our Essay Competition has already closed and judging is now underway. A list of the winners and their countries will be announced in the August e-newsletter.
We would like your help in making sure as many people as possible know about our Competitions. If you would be willing to circulate a flyer about the Photography and Film Competitions to your friends, family or colleagues, please click here. Alternatively, for more information, please visit: www.thercs.org/youth/competitions
